Potash and North Road Road Roundabout to open November 25th
The City of Grand Island Public Works Department is announcing Old Potash Highway, Kaufman Avenue and Claude Road are scheduled to be open to traffic on November 25, 2020. The new roundabout at the intersection of Old Potash Highway and North Road is complete and will be part of the opening. The opening of Claude Road will include the segment from Faidley Avenue to Kaufman Avenue.
The Claude Road connection north of Old Potash Highway is scheduled for construction in the spring of 2021. Construction of Old Potash Highway from the US Post Office to Webb Road will continue in 2021. The Old Potash Highway and Claude Road project includes reconstruction of Old Potash Highway from Webb Road to North Road. Old Potash Highway will consist of removal of the existing asphalt roadway and construction of a concrete curb and gutter roadway section. The construction of a new section of Claude Road from Old Potash Highway to Faidley Avenue is also part of the project.
Four roundabouts will be constructed with this project and include the following intersections; Old Potash Highway and Wilmar Avenue, Old Potash Highway and Claude Road, Old Potash Highway and North Road, Claude Road and Faidley Avenue. The project will also include storm sewer construction, sidewalk improvements, water main adjustments and sanitary sewer extensions.
Utility relocations along Old Potash Highway are well underway and will continue into the 2021 construction season.
On May 26, 2020, City Council awarded the construction contract to Starostka Group Unlimited, Inc. of Grand Island, Nebraska for $10,530,764.77.
